Biographical summary

Ms. Sykara is a clinical psychologist who has dedicated her career in ameliorating the quality of life of vulnerable populations with neurological and psychiatric disorders. Ms. Sykara has obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Athens in Greece.  She went on to complete her Master’s Degree at King’s College London in Social Science and Public Policy focusing on Child Studies. She served as staff psychologist for students with special educational needs in Ashmole School, London, UK prior to returning to her native Greece. She went on to join the Neurological Institute of Athens in 2014 as Head Psychologist and also staff psychologist at the Neurology Department at the Athens Medical Center, evaluating and treating patients with neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, as well as their caregivers. She has further obtained graduate training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) at the University of Athens and CBT for Insomnia training at the University of California San Francisco as an Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health. ​

​Building on her expertise in caring for people with developmental disorders, Ms. Sykara focuses on the accurate characterization and diagnosis of adults with cognitive and behavioral impairment, and provides psychotherapy to patients and family members. Ms. Sykara is passionate in contributing towards a more equitable society through her clinical work, as well as through educational and research activities. Her scientific focus is on the implementation of non-pharmacological interventions that can improve the quality of life of patients with cognitive disorders and their caregivers, with a special emphasis on psychological interventions that improve sleep.  ​
